3D printers for shoe technology

3D printing is changing how lasts, fitting films and supplements are produced. From manually building and sanding to a printer that creates the final product from a digital design. Shapemakers is both a manufacturing partner for companies that want to outsource, and a supplier of 3D printers for companies that want to produce their own. We remain available as a maintenance partner afterwards.

What do you print for the shoe technology workshop?

3D printers in shoe technology are used for three applications: lasts, fitting films and supplements. The same principle applies to each: the digital design controls the printer, the printer follows exactly. No manual interpretation, no variation between productions.

  • Lists: the basis of every orthopaedic shoe, produced from the digital model of the foot
  • Fitting films: transparent films that display the last shape and corrections, for use during the fitting process
  • Supplements: correction elements for in or under the shoe, with exact positioning and sizing

Materials: ECO Shoe Last Filament and Shoe Last Filament

The choice of materials determines the properties of the final product. Shapemakers works with two types of filament for shoe technology applications, each with its own characteristics:

ECO Shoe Last Filament is a strong and lightweight PLA-based filament developed specifically for printing shoe lasts. It is easy to sand and glue, facilitating post-processing in the workshop. Lasts are ready to use as early as the day of production, with minimal material consumption and consistent results on every production run.

Shoe Last Filament is a premium wood-based filament with real wood fibres. It combines the natural aesthetics of wood with the strength required for orthopaedic applications. The finish is smooth and sandable, the material fits seamlessly into existing workshop routines.

Direct link from design software

The major advantage of a digital workflow is that the step from design to production requires no manual intervention. From the design software, the print file is generated directly and sent to the printer. No file conversion, no additional software, no loss of information.

You design the last, supplement or fitting film. The printer produces based on exactly that design. That's how a workshop works more efficiently.

Produce in-house or outsource?

For companies wishing to produce in-house, Shapemakers supplies the printer, handles implementation and remains available as a maintenance partner. You build production capacity in-house, with the assurance that you are not on your own.

For companies wishing to outsource, Shapemakers supplies lasts, fitting films and supplements based on your digital files. You design, we produce. Control of the design remains with you.
