Shapemakers is proud to share B&C Custom Bracing's innovative knee brace. The first 3D printed high-impact knee brace fully customised for each individual wearer. This brace enables safe, comfortable and worry-free sport. Whether you do motocross, golf, ski or skate: this custom-made knee brace protects the knee joints without restricting movement.
It has now been 1.5 years since Peter Ruijtenberg first came into contact with Rob Bogie (Orthopaedic Surgeon) and Toine Cuijten (Technical Engineer) of B&C Custom Bracing. They, in turn, had got our name through Fontys University of Applied Sciences. A place where we take students through a bit of digitalisation within orthopaedics. In conversations, it soon became clear that the transition from being able to move well to being able to play sports well was quickly made. The idea B&C Custom Bracing shared with us therefore fell squarely within the possibilities we can offer.
These conversations were then developed with our software partner Shapeshift 3D. We have had an adventurous partnership with Canada-based Shapeshift 3D since 2020. They offer a smart software (A.I.) specifically for customised products. By building the unique product development and tuned workflow, each company is ultimately able to make the production process up to 4000% faster. Scaling up custom-made products in production is suddenly no longer a pipe dream, but can be implemented today!
A joint project was started with B&C, which included all conditions, wishes and needs. The design created by B&C was converted into a digital model suitable for the software. When the final design was ready, a workflow was built specifically for the knee brace. Together, we looked at which parts needed to be applied automatically-and which manually. This is the final time-saver that ensures that many long-winded but important tasks are done without effort.
B&C can now run any single scan of a knee through the software within 5 min. At the end of this process, they approve the made brace and the software produces a custom-made brace in 3D files. The design of the brace is completely folded around the 3D scan of the knee by the software, creating a unique fitting shape. B&C has in-house further production of the knee brace to 3D print and finish. The result looks great!
