What is a 3D scanner for orthopaedics?
A 3D scanner for orthopaedics records the exact shape of a stump, trunk, arm or leg. The output is a digital 3D model that you then load into your CAD software and use as the basis for an orthosis, prosthesis or orthopaedic mould.
The big difference with a plaster cast: the scan is a file. You can therefore easily save it, send it, compare it with a previous measurement or use it again and adjust it if necessary. With a plaster cast, you can't do that.
