Milling moulds for orthopaedics is an important technique in the design and production of orthopaedic devices. The process usually starts with scanning the body part for which the device is intended, such as the foot or ankle. CAD software is then used to create a digital design of the mould, which is converted into CNC programming.
Using a CNC milling machine, the design of the mould is then milled into a block of PIR, PUR or MDF. When milling moulds, either PIR or PUR can be chosen. Both foams are suitable for mould milling, the difference being in the cell structure of the foam.
Mould milling offers several advantages over traditional mould making methods.
It is faster, more accurate and less prone to human error. Moreover, digital designs can be easily modified, increasing the flexibility and efficiency of the production process.
For every order, we recommend the best type of foam, if required. Consultation with us is always possible. We handle every order with a unique customised milling programme.
In the catalogue (which can be downloaded at the top of this page) you will find our product overview and recommended densities. Other/special products can be milled in consultation. We can also produce in consultation densities vary from recommended densities.
