Have 3D orthoses made

A 3D orthosis is the direct translation of your digital design into the physical device. 3D printing the orthosis gives you exact control over pressure distribution and fit. This is because there is no manual build-up or deformation during production. What you design is what your patient gets.

What is a 3D orthotic?

A 3D orthosis is an orthopaedic device that is completely digitally designed and produced. Based on a 3D scan of the body part, you build a CAD model that is then printed layer by layer to create a medical device that exactly matches your patient's anatomy.

3D orthoses come in all shapes and sizes: ankle-foot orthoses (EVO), splints or 3D printed braces for the forearms, torso orthoses, corsets and more. All situations where fit and accuracy directly affect the treatment outcome.

Traditional vs 3D orthotic

Everyone knows the traditional way of orthotic production: take a plaster cast, build a model, heat thermoplastic and then hope the deformation is minimal. Every step is a moment when something can go wrong.

With a 3D orthosis, those steps and risks are largely eliminated. You work from an exact digital model and production follows that model down to the millimetre. The data drives production. That means: no vacuum techniques, no manual modelling and no deviations between design and final product.

That way, as an orthopaedic technician, you no longer have to worry about compensating for production errors, but can simply focus on the design and treatment strategy.

Full control over fit and correction

With a 3D orthosis, every design decision is directly visible in the final product. This gives a level of control that you do not achieve with traditional techniques.

Every correction zone sits exactly where you put it. Pressure and relief zones are made exactly as you intended. You adjust stiffness and flexibility per zone in the model. And version management ensures that documentation remains available for follow-up treatments, adjustments or transfer to other healthcare providers.

Does a patient return? Then simply reprint: identical or with targeted modifications based on the original model from the scanner.

Benefits of 3D printed orthoses in your orthopaedic practice

In your orthopaedic practice, 3D printed orthoses will provide you with the following:

  • Shorter lead time between design and delivery (and therefore less waiting time for patients)
  • Less rework or correction due to more accurate production
  • Constant quality
  • Constructions of lightweight materials that fit the load and improve wearing comfort
  • Higher patient satisfaction and compliance thanks to better fit and treatment outcomes
  • Scalable production without additional workload when volume increases
