What are lying solutions in the mobility sector? 

Lying solutions are positioning systems and other custom-made lying systems for use in care facilities, home care and during rehabilitation. These include lying orthoses, modular positioning blocks, pressure-relieving braces or wedge cushions and abduction cushions. 

These lying solutions are used for patients who lie down for long periods, in pressure ulcer prevention and in positioning people with complex conditions. The goal is better pressure distribution in supine or lateral recumbency, more comfort and less risk of complications due to prolonged pressure on vulnerable areas.

Standard solutions vs customisation 

Every body is different. This is especially true for people with complex care needs. Standard systems can often only deal with muscle tone, contractures, asymmetry or fragile skin, for example, to a limited extent. A standard mattress or positioning cushion is designed for an average body. Not for the individual who actually uses it.

Digital manufacturing through Shapemakers 

Based on your design, Shapemakers produces a fixed or dynamic customised ligor orthosis. Depending on the part and material properties required, we do this via CNC milling or 3D printing with soft foam for support and comfort and stiffer materials for structural parts. 

The design determines the choice of materials. Shapemakers advises based on the application and the lying shape you provide.
